Wayne Rooney’s Everton return is official – and excited fans have flocked to Twitter to welcome the boyhood Blue back .
The striker underwent a medical at Finch Farm on Saturday before his homecoming was officially announced on Sunday afternoon .
Rooney has signed a two-year deal and joins from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, with Romelu Lukaku set to head in the opposite direction.
Rooney revealed his delight at returning to his boyhood club on Twitter, saying: “Excited to be back at @Everton.
“Can’t wait to meet up with @RonaldKoeman and the lads! #EFC”.
In a 15-year career to date, the 31-year-old has won the Champions League, Europa League, five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three League Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup, scoring 323 goals in the process.
He leaves United as their all-time record goalscorer after plundering 253 goals for the Red Devils, and plenty of Blues are delighted to see him back.
They include former Blues Tim Cahill, Kevin Campbell and Phil Neville, who all wished Rooney well on his second stint with the club he left as a teenager in 2004.
